Integrated Water Management: Protecting Golf's Vital Resource

Monday, February 3
8:00 am – 10:00 am

Registration Required

Golf courses, despite their advancements in sustainable turfgrass management, are often misunderstood by the public regarding their environmental impact. Unpredictable weather and urbanization have increased stormwater management issues and droughts, while policies restrict potable water use for irrigation. Superintendents, as stewards of the environment, must understand and communicate the impact of weather extremes and water restrictions on turfgrass and golf course benefits. This presentation will explore optimizing water-use efficiency and resilience while maintaining quality. Topics include turfgrass response to drought and flooding, irrigation audits, new technology, reducing irrigated areas, improving water infiltration and retention, pollinator habitats, and water quality management.
