John Brooks, Ph.D.
John Brooks, Ph.D., is a Research Microbiologist at USDA-ARS in Mississippi State, Miss. He earned his bachelors in microbiology from the University of Texas at El Paso and his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Arizona, Tucson. Brooks has worked in environmental and public health for more than 20 years. Research participation has included soil health, microbial ecology, enteric viruses, bacteria, and antibiotic resistant bacteria in impacted environments including water, soil, air, and animal feeding operations. Since arriving at ARS 17 years ago, Brooks has authored or co-authored over 90 publications in numerous prestigious journals. In 2018, he was invited by the tripartite (WHO, FAO, & OIE) to serve as one of 25 experts in AMR in food and the food environments and is now the co-Editor in Chief for J. Agriculture and Food Research.
