J. Bryan Unruh, Ph.D.

J. Bryan Unruh, Ph.D., is a Professor of Environmental Horticulture at the University of Florida, IFAS, West Florida Research and Education Center in Jay, Fla. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s from Kansas State University and his Ph.D. from Iowa State University. Unruh’s turfgrass science program is at the forefront of developing and improving Best Management Practices (BMPs) for all segments of the green industry. Results from his team’s work are included in all four Florida turf industry BMP manuals. Unruh’s team was selected to develop the GCSAA National BMP Planning Guide and Template that resulted in golf-centric BMP manuals in all 50 states. Unruh was honored to receive the GCSAA’s 2023 President’s Award for Environmental Stewardship and the 2023 Marie Roberts Lifetime Service Award from the Florida GCSA. He is a fellow in both the Crop Science Society of America and the American Society of Agronomy and was selected as the recipient of the 2024 Crop Science Society Educator Award.
