L B McCarty, Ph.D.

Bert McCarty, Ph.D., is a professor of horticulture at Clemson University and he holds degrees from Clemson and North Carolina State universities. McCarty’s research focuses on weed management, PGR use and environmental stress physiology issues affecting turfgrass managers and his appointment at Clemson includes a blend of teaching, research and extension. McCarty’s excellence in the turf industry has been well-documented through numerous awards he has received, including a Service Merit Award from the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association, an Outstanding Extension Publication Award from the American Society for Horticultural Science, and the Young Weed Scientist of the Year Award from the Weed Science Society of America. Additionally, he is an honorary member of the golf course superintendent associations of Arkansas, Florida and the Carolinas. He has published several hundred articles dealing with all phases of turfgrass management and has given over 700 presentations in locations around the globe. He is a co-author of the books, Color Atlas of Turfgrass Weeds,Best Golf Course Management Practices, Southern Lawns, Managing Bermudagrass Turf, and Sod Production in the Southern United States.
