Mark J Woodward, CGCS
Mark J. Woodward has been a Certified Golf Course Superintendent (CGCS) for over 36 years and has over 50 years of experience in many facets of the golf industry with over 45 years in Arizona. He is currently serving as the Past President of the Cactus and Pine Golf Course Superintendents Association of Arizona. Woodward recently retired from Whisper Rock Golf Club where he served as the Director of Agronomy for almost 5 years. Prior to that Woodward served as a Senior Vice President of Operations for Scottsdale, Arizona based OB Sports Golf Management from 2013-2017. He also served as CEO of the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America (GCSAA) from 2008-2010 and was on the GCSAA Board of Directors for seven years serving the association as President in 2004. Along with the CEOs of the PGA of America, the Club Managers Association and the Golf Course Owners Association Woodward played a key role in starting the “WE ARE GOLF” coalition and the “NATIONAL GOLF DAY’ programs that are still active today. From 2005-2008 Woodward was the Golf Operations Manager for the City of San Diego and was responsible for preparing the Torrey Pines South Golf Course for the 2008 U.S. Open, working closely with the United States Golf Association (USGA). For his efforts at Torrey Pines, Woodward was recognized by Golf Inc. Magazine as one of golf’s “Most Admired Operators” in 2006 and in the Top 35 “Most Powerful People in Golf” in 2008 and 2009. He is currently serving on four (4) Boards of Director and is doing golf course consulting work. Woodward was inducted into the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame in November 2021.
