(2074-01) Understanding that turfgrass is a living breathing environment impacted by many things and monitoring key aspects of the turfgrass system have educated Carmen Magro, CGCS, Ph.D., and Mike Fidanza, Ph.D., on how each variable interacts not only with turf but with other variables important to developing the finest playing conditions possible. Nearly twenty years of analysis based on key monitoring technology has evaluated the impact of moisture, salinity, ambient conditions and much more on the performance of turfgrass systems on golf courses. With insight from courses of all levels, our discussion will look at impacts of decisions made daily on golf courses in pursuit of developing a healthy performing platform for play. Discussion revolves around why turf succumbs to stress, disease development & management and turfgrass playability. A good understanding of how to monitor a turfgrass system for improved use of water, fertilizer and cultural practices will be realized from detailed review surrounding recent scientific insight and current research & practices. You’ll walk away with a well-rounded understanding of the day’s topics and how they will help you improve operations.
