Manuel Roman Chavarria Sanchez, Ph.D.

Manuel Chavarria, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor and Extension in Turfgrass in Soil and Crop Sciences at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. He earned his Ph.D. in Molecular and Environmental Plant Sciences from Texas A&M University. Chavarria’s doctorate work was part a component of the USDA-NIFA Specialty Crops Research Project, a four-year, multi-state and multi-university project that involved collaboration with five other land grant institutions across the southeastern U.S. Chavarria has extensive experience with warm- and cool-season turfgrasses working closely with several international chemical companies such Petro Canada “Intelligro”, Adama, Syngenta, Bayer, Nufarm, Neudorff, and Engage Agro evaluating the benefits of new formulations in comparison to standard products to control diseases, weeds, and insects. Prior to joining Texas A&M, Chavarria was a research associate in the Agronomy Department at University of Florida after being the lead scientist at the Prairie Turfgrass Research Centre at Olds College Centre for Innovation. His current research is focused on cultural management subjects regarding home lawns, sports fields, parks and recreations, and golf courses. Chavarria has published in peer-review and trade journals.
