Non Pesticidal Disease Management-Cancelled

Tuesday, February 7
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

This seminar is Cancellled.

(1370-01) Disease suppression is major factor in the successful management of playable turfgrasses. Let’s explore how it’s possible to suppress turfgrass disease in the absence of, or with limited fungicides. Research shows cultural practices such as rolling, sand topdressing, mowing and irrigation practices can reduce disease levels. A review of what a disease is, and how various pathogens infect turfgrass along with a look at the ‘disease pyramid’ will show how you can target factors which influence disease incidence. Specific areas which will be expanded upon include, environmental factors, such dew control, air movement, and light quality. The pathogen infection process and plant defenses response will be covered along with data showing disease suppression by maintenance programs which include defense priming and stimulation. Many plant nutrients also have a direct effect on disease incidence, and we’ll discuss which not only controlled disease, but enhanced turfgrass quality and growth.
